Blockchain seems to be a kind of buzzword after the rapid rise of the stock market price of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Many talk about it as if it were a completely new, so unprecedented technology, which only can be used and understood by technology professionals. Blockchain technology was developed in 1991, initially as a digital time-stamp for documents. The technology assumes the role of a notary: It assures that the document has not been
subsequently changed and that all information contained is complete and valid.
Blockchain technology, however, remained largely untapped until 2009, when Satoshi Nakamoto released his paper “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” to explain the transactions of his own cryptocurrency Bitcoin.
Satoshi Nakamoto is a pseudonym for a person or even a group of several programmers that work together in an open source project.
Blockchain is a disruptive technology that has the potential to not only simplify and improve everyday services, but to revolutionize entire industries, especially through the platform economy.
